Fall 2010 Schedule
The Camel City Bluegrass Jam is made up of novice to intermediate bluegrass musicians with the shared goals of becoming better group players, and having fun while doing so. Bluegrass music is an interactive and social form of music, and it is meant to be played as a group. For many of us, learning to play an instrument is largely a solitary experience. Finding others to play with that are compatible in terms of skill and experience can be difficult, and sometimes even intimidating. The Camel City Bluegrass Jam strives to be a low-pressure, friendly atmosphere for closet pickers and novice musicians to enjoy playing in. We focus on traditional bluegrass songs (meaning songs that are sung), not blazing instrumentals. The majority of these songs are 2 or 3 chord songs, making them accessible to players with little group playing experience. Check our songs page for a list of songs that frequently show up in the jam, as well as information about the songbooks we typically use.
One of the great things about bluegrass is the number of really fun songs that aren’t that difficult to play. If you play banjo, guitar, fiddle, mandolin or bass, and you know the chords G, C, and D, you can contribute to the jam! Look at our Jam Tips page for more information on rules & etiquette types of things, and check out the Resources page for links to additional sites of interest.
The Camel City Bluegrass Jam meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month. We start at 7:00 PM and play for a couple of hours. We are currently meeting at Augsburg Lutheran Church in downtown Winston-Salem (845 West Fifth Street).
